I spoke to Tian Tian today. She’s still in quarantine, but things are on the up and up. The number of new Covid-19 cases in Wuhan is decreasing day by day. Tian Tian and her family can now order from an online supermarket again and today she received a baby hair trimmer from an online retailer. Now her son Dang Dang will be able to have a haircut.

Earlier today I watched a documentary which showed the incredible response China took to slow the spread of the virus, from building two new hospitals in record time, to drafting health care workers from across the country to treat the sick. Upon viewing it my sister said, “We are toast. No way we are that organized and selfless here. Just look at this.” I too am worried. I’m also scared, but seeing the incredible response China has made to save its citizenry did not fill me with dread. It filled me with hope. It’s possible. Stopping the spread of Covid-19 is possible, and a road map of what to do has already been laid out. We just need to follow it.

Today Tian Tian told me that she got a fish. A province in China (she did not specify which one) had gifted every household in Wuhan in quarantine a fish. Her father went downstairs to the courtyard in his mask and told a volunteer in a full hazmat suit his apartment number and the number of people in his household. He was then handed a live 4 lb fish in a plastic bag. He brought it back to their apartment where Tian Tian’s mother killed it herself. China is amazing. It’s our turn to be amazing too.
